The Negombo District Branch of the Sri Lanka Scout Association (SLSA) is preparing to celebrate its 75 th anniversary this year. The launch of the logo on 2 nd February 2019 at 10.15 am at Gateway College, Negombo, would mark the very first event in the calendar for the Negombo Branch for it’s anniversary celebrations. This auspicious event would be presided over by Mr. Janaprith Fernando, World Scout Committee Member of World Organization of Scout Movement & Deputy Chief Commissioner of Sri Lanka Scout Association and the Chairman of the branch association Rear Admiral (Retired) Rohan Amarasinghe. Negombo District Branch of the SLSA   has been unfolding and spreading its fragrance throughout the district and to the world at large   since its inception in 1944. The canoe of Negombo Scouts has sailed far at sea braving the storms to reach its destinations led by dedicated District Commissioners, such as Mr Titus Bulathsinhala, Mr T. E. K. de Croos, Mr Leo G Fernando, Mr Felix Fonseka, Mr Raymond Dalpathado,Mr Anton S Victoria and Mr Lalith Fernando to name a few. In 2014 the 70 th anniversary of the Negombo District Branch of SLSA was piously celebrated giving prominence to religious ceremonies to inculcate the true values of life by the then District Commissioner Mr Elmo Rowel. Mr Lakshan Perera the dynamic present District Commissioner assisted by the Assistant District Commissioners and the scout leaders is giving leadership to the 75 th anniversary celebrations. He is a President Scout and is acclaimed the Youngest District Commissioner of Sri Lanka.      With the leadership of successful Commissioners, Negombo District Branch of SLSA now has a large population of scouts comprising of Rovers (Air, Sea & Adventure), Scouts (Air, Sea & Adventure) and Cub Scouts. It is indeed a notable achievement that Negombo District Branch produced 15 President Scouts and 150 Gold Stars Cub Scouts in the year 2018. This is the highest in numbers achieved so far and is the result of dedicated service of many deputy commissioners, scout masters and Cub Akelas who render a voluntary service to the community of Negombo scout District. Let’s hope that the activities during this anniversary year would spark more enthusiasm in scouting to brighten the skies of Negombo District.
